Pnuematic Solutions for Industry

Omega Process Controls recently worked with a leading deepwater drilling contractor, who owns and operates one of the largest fleets of offshore drilling units in the world. They provide contract drilling services to the energy industry around the globe and is a leader in deepwater drilling.

Existing Electrical Control Panel The customer had an existing hydraulic and electrical system that controlled the valves in their cement conveying and mixing system. The problem they were having is that the hydraulics had begun to leak and required ongoing maintenance to keep the system running.

Omega Process Controls worked along side several other vendors in creating a solution that would be both economical and very reliable. The new system design incorporated pneumatic valve control along with electrical visual indication (Valve Open and Valve Closed Lights) of valve position. It also includes gauges to verify system and tank pressure. The pneumatic operation allows the unit to be very fault tolerant while the open and closed indication lights give quick feedback to the operator. In addition, there is a etched plate attached to the top of the panel showing the operator where the valves are located on the tank to assist in the operation of the system.

The solution also was designed and produced in a matter of weeks allowing the rig to be retro-fit with the new controls and valves while it was docked for scheduled maintenance. This saved the customer money and the frustration of trying to delay currently scheduled jobs or the contractors working on a retro-fit while out at sea.
